[Translate to Espagñol:]The last Sabah Rhinos

[Translate to Espagñol:]

This Slideshow shows pictures of the last known Sabah rhinos taken in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015. The rhinos you see are called Tam, Gelugob, Puntung and Iman and lifed in the Borneo rhino sanctuary in Tabin, Sabah, Malaysia. Gelugob passed away in January 2014. Tam, captured in 2008, passed away in May 2019. Puntung captured in 2011, passed away in June 2017. Iman captured in 2014, passed away in November 23 2019 s the last known rhino in Malaysia

Unfortunately all 3 females had cysts in their uterus and couldn't become pregnant. But ovums could be saved that hopefully can be used for artificial reproduction in the future.

Currently, there are only 8 rhinos in captivity -all of them in Indonesia: 7 in Way Kambas, Sumatra: the females Bina, Rosa and Ratu; the males Andalas and his younger brother Harapan) and Ratu's and Andalas' offspring Andatu (a male borne in 2012) and Delilah (a female born in 2016).

The dwindling wild population is estimated to be between 30 and 100 individuals (worldwide). Most of them in Sumatra and very few in Kalimantan.
Since April 2015 the Rhino and Forest Fund is actively participating in the search for the last Sabah rhinos, that hopefully still survive in the wild and supports rhino conservation and protection measures in Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia.
