Sabah Rhinos 2010–2015

This Slideshow shows pictures of Sabah rhinos taken in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015. The rhinos you see are called Tam, Gelugob, Puntung and Iman and currently life in the Borneo rhino sanctuary in Tabin, Sabah, Malaysia. Gelugob passed away in January 2014. Tam was captured in 2008, Puntung in 2011 and Iman in 2014. Unfortunately all 3 females had cysts in their uterus and couldn't become pregnant. But ovums could be saved that hopefully can be used for artificial reproduction in the future.

Apart from these 3 rhinos, there are only 6 other rhinos in captivity: 5 in Way Kambas, Sumatra (Bina, Rosa, Ratu, Andalas and Andatu) and 1 in Cincinnati, USA (Harapan).

The dwindling wild population is estimated to be below 100 individuals (worldwide).
Since April 2015 the Rhino and Forest Fund is actively participating in the search for the last Sabah rhinos, that hopefully still survive in the wild.
